Montreal’s Palais des congrès came alive from August 7 to 9 as Otakuthon returned for another wildly colourful celebration of anime, manga, gaming, Japanese culture and the extraordinary creativity of its devoted community.
One of Canada’s largest anime and Japanese pop-culture conventions, the three-day event once again drew fans from Quebec, across Canada and around the world for an immersive lineup of cosplay, concerts, gaming, cultural programming and, of course, the legendary Masquerade.
Beyond the spectacle, what continued to make Otakuthon so special was the incredible sense of community. From elaborate handcrafted costumes and props to the artistry, imagination and sheer passion on display, fandom became friendship and creativity became a language all its own.
A wonderfully vibrant reminder of just how colourful Montreal summers can be.
