BRUNY SURIN FOUNDATION GALA

THE FINAL CHAPTER

The final Bruny Surin Foundation Gala transformed The Ritz-Carlton Montreal into a celebration of gratitude, achievement, and generosity. Held on Wednesday evening, July 8, the 25th edition raised $160,000 and marked the conclusion of one of Quebec’s most respected sporting charity events while honoring a legacy that has inspired young people through sport and education for a quarter century.

An Elegant Evening at The Ritz

Guests arrived in cocktail and formal attire before gathering for a lively reception on the hotel’s second floor in the Gold Room. Flowing conversations with carefully curated appetizers and refreshments established a welcoming atmosphere before the evening’s main attraction.

An online auction inticed supporters to bid on exceptional experiences and exclusive items — such as a Swiss-made luxury watch gifted by Bijouterie Italienne owner Marco Miserendino and NORQAIN Watches US COO Mathieu Meunier — adding another meaningful contribution to the foundation’s fundraising efforts.

Attendees were then invited to descend to the majestic Oval Room for dinner, where beautifully dressed tables, attentive service, and refined cuisine reflected the significance of the occasion. Each table shared bottles of red and white wine, while VIP guests toasted with champagne.

Throughout the room, Olympians, professional athletes, business leaders, and longtime supporters exchanged stories celebrating the remarkable journey that began with a modest fundraising effort 25 years earlier.

Celebrating 25 Years of Giving

Sponsored by Financière Banque Nationale and Vo-Dignard Provost, the evening carried genuine emotion as Bruny Surin reflected on the foundation’s impact. Established after his celebrated sprinting career, the organization helped countless young people pursue athletic and academic ambitions through scholarships, training camps, school supplies, and practical support for families facing financial challenges.

Over 25 years, the gala generated nearly $3 million to strengthen opportunities for Quebec’s next generation. Many former recipients have since become Olympians, accomplished professionals, and community leaders. Their achievements offered compelling evidence that sustained encouragement and accessible resources can shape futures far beyond the playing field.

The foundation also became a gathering place where sport, philanthropy, and civic engagement naturally intersected. Every annual edition welcomed influential personalities, such as MMA legend Georges St-Pierre, who shared a common commitment to encouraging young people to dream confidently and develop their talents.

Passing the Torch to Future Leaders

The farewell gala also looked toward the future as the Bruny Surin Foundation announced it will continue supporting youth by helping organizations with similar missions. Montreal basketball star Luguentz Dort embraced that responsibility, while Olympic sprinter Audrey Leduc highlighted the importance of financial support for emerging athletes, reflecting Surin’s enduring influence in inspiring a new generation of sports leaders to give back to their communities.

The final Bruny Surin Foundation Gala closed an important chapter in Montreal’s philanthropic calendar. Its enduring legacy lives through thousands of young people whose ambitions were strengthened by opportunity, mentorship, and belief. As one generation steps aside and another accepts the responsibility to give back, the values that defined the Bruny Surin Foundation continue moving forward with confidence, purpose, and lasting impact for communities across Quebec.
