Sending it back on a Saturday to the 87th annual St. Mary’s Ball – expertly hosted by Foundation Board Chair Arthur Wechsler, and Executive Member of the Foundation Board and Governors’ Board Rachel Renaud – that not only raised a remarkable $1,251,850 (NET!) but marked the official launch of St. Mary’s $100 million Next Century of Care campaign.
On this once-in-a-century occasion, leaders of the St. Mary’s community, and their distinguished guests, descended upon ever elegant Windsor station in their black tie best to enjoy a twenties-themed spectacular where fine food, electrifying entertainment, and seriously good vibes were in delightful abundance.
Among the many highlights were a speakeasy-style bar and life-size replica of the original Hospital gates at cocktails; lush floral displays replete with scintillating candelabras; touching video running through St. Mary’s rich 100-year history; multicourse culinary experience by celebrated chef Adele Forgione of Ristorante Beatrice fame; memorable performances by “looping” artist Alex Maher with the Sonia Balazovjech Dance Company; endlessly inspiring dance fodder courtesy of Paul Chacra’s 1945 Band and DJ Psychology; Bridget Fetterly and husband Paolo Bassi’s opening of a traditional dance paying homage to the the very first St. Mary’s Balls debs; brimming raffle and silent auction; and, the especially inspiring introduction of the ball’s Visionary Women Leaders, Anne-Marie Boucher, Sylvie Chagnon, Adriana Embiricos, Mary Gallery, and Arielle Meloul-Wechsler – each of whom each pledged $1 million to build and secure the future of community healthcare at St. Mary’s, takingcenter stage with Foundation President & CEO Cynda Heward, to share poignant testimonies highlighting the profound impact St. Mary’s has had on each of their lives.
Supportive attendees (750 plus) including the Right Honourable Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada, a guest of longtime friend and St. Mary’s Chief of Cardiology, Dr. Mathieu Walker, were inspired and impressed with the night of magic and impact that won’t be forgotten anytime soon, going the distance for hospital priorities like the full range of vital services for Women’s Health, helping countless women of ALL ages in the community.
