What if Juliet didn’t die? What if she lived — boldly, freely, and fabulously on her own terms?
That was exactly the delicious premise of & Juliet, the hit Broadway jukebox musical that graced Place des Arts from March 17 to 22. The story followed Anne Hathaway- yes, William Shakespeare’s real-life wife who decided she had quite enough of her husband’s tragic ending and rewrote the final act. Juliet lived, packed her bags, and headed to France to discover who she truly was as a fiercely independent woman.
Set to an incredible soundtrack of pop anthems, the show was pure joy from start to finish – funny, empowering, and impossibly fun. It was exactly the kind of evening that left you walking out of the theatre feeling like you could take on the entire world.
Montreal showed up, and & Juliet delivered every single moment. Here’s hoping she comes back for an encore.
