COCKTAIL 100% NATURE 2025

A BUTTERFLY BALL @ MONTREAL INSECTARIUM

On Wednesday, October 22, the Montreal Insectarium came alive in more ways than one as the Fondation Espace pour la vie hosted the fourth edition of its philanthropic soirée, Cocktail 100% Nature, and raised $240 000 for a green cause.

The annual benefit event brought together science enthusiasts, environmental advocates, and Montreal’s philanthropic elite for an evening celebrating the deep connection between humans and the natural world. This year’s edition embraced the themes of biophilia —our innate love for life and nature— and entomophilia —a renewed appreciation for the insects that sustain our ecosystems.

Under the honorary presidency of Martin Imbleau, CEO of Alto, the evening offered guests a rare experience that blended science, art, and gastronomy within the luminous setting of the new Insectarium. Supported by Gold Partners CAE and the RBC Foundation, the event reaffirmed the Fondation Espace pour la vie’s commitment to biodiversity preservation and to building a more sustainable, inclusive relationship with nature.

A Biophilic Journey Through the Insectarium

Rather than a traditional sit-down gala, the Cocktail 100% Nature unfolded as an immersive journey. From 6 p.m., more than 225 guests entered the Great Vivarium, where hundreds of butterflies, beetles, and mantises cohabited in a stunning display of life and color.

The setting encouraged slow exploration and meaningful conversations, a refreshing change from the usual rush of social events.

At 7 p.m., opening remarks welcomed guests, followed by a live performance by electro-ambient artist Leon Louder, whose soundscape harmonized beautifully with the rhythmic movements of the winged residents.

By 7:30 p.m., the RBC AI Space opened, showcasing interactive exhibits highlighting innovative projects at the intersection of technology and sustainability. The evening’s highlight came at 8 p.m. when organizers announced that $240 000 were raised as funds for research and conservation projects across the Espace pour la vie institutions.

Gastronomy Inspired by Nature

The culinary experience was curated by the team at Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth, whose chefs designed a menu both daring and delectable. Guests indulged in a variety of creative bites from themed stations, including tacos, dumplings, and decadent desserts. True to the event’s theme, two dishes featured insect protein, clearly marked for the adventurous. While some approached these delicacies with curiosity and others with caution, the result was the same: lively discussion about sustainable nutrition and the future of food.

The beverage program reflected the same ethos. From organic wines to local spirits and mocktails, every glass celebrated biodiversity and mindful indulgence. CAE presented the evening’s signature cocktail, a botanical creation that blended herbal notes with floral aromas, perfectly aligning with the night’s spirit of harmony between humans and nature.

A Celebration of Commitment

Beyond the glamour and gourmet delights, Cocktail 100% Nature served a greater purpose: mobilizing the community to protect our planet’s living heritage. Each ticket purchased directly supported the Fondation Espace pour la vie’s ongoing mission to fund transformative projects in science education, environmental preservation, and ecological research.
