Behind Dua Lipa’s Wedding

The Sicilian Hotel

Donna Franca Suite

When Dua Lipa chose Sicily for her wedding celebrations, the world took notice. And the hotel at the center of it all? Villa Igiea in Palermo. An address so breathtaking, so steeped in history and Mediterranean beauty, that it feels less like a hotel and more like a living, breathing work of art.

Overlooking the Gulf of Palermo with sweeping views of the Tyrrhenian Sea, Villa Igiea carries a legacy that dates back to the height of the Florio family’s extraordinary influence in the late 19th century. Built in 1900 as an Art Nouveau palace, the property became one of the defining symbols of the Mediterranean Belle Époque, welcoming Tsar Nicholas II of Russia, King Edward VII of the United Kingdom, and financier J.P. Morgan through its magnificent doors. The kind of guest list that tells you everything you need to know about the calibre of this place.

Following an extensive renovation by Rocco Forte Hotels, with interiors reimagined by the talented Olga Polizzi in collaboration with Nicholas Haslam Studios, Villa Igiea enters a stunning new chapter. The result is an aesthetic that honours the building’s extraordinary architecture and the Florio family’s legendary lifestyle while embracing a contemporary and deeply Sicilian vision of luxury. Handcrafted wallpaper, historic furnishings, rich textiles, and a palette of amber, hibiscus, pomegranate, and sage green create spaces that feel both timeless and completely fresh.

Alicetta

Of the 72 rooms and 28 individually designed suites, the Donna Franca Suite stands apart as the hotel’s most iconic accommodation. Spanning 144 square metres with an additional 96-square-metre private terrace overlooking the Tyrrhenian sunset, the suite pays tribute to Donna Franca Florio herself, a Belle Époque icon of the most extraordinary kind. Local artworks, carefully selected antiques, and subtle maritime references come together in a space that is as much a cultural experience as it is a place to sleep.

Dining at Villa Igiea is equally magnificent. At Florio restaurant, chef Fulvio Pierangelini‘s cuisine is rooted in refined simplicity and the most beautiful local ingredients. Fresh seafood, handmade pastas, and traditional Sicilian dishes crafted with extraordinary respect for their origins. Alicetta, the open-air bistro suspended between the gardens and the sea, offers something lighter and more contemplative, while the Igiea Terrazza Bar invites guests into the most perfect evening ritual with cocktails beneath historic arches and views over Palermo’s sunset.

SPA

And for those seeking restoration of a different kind, the Irene Forte Spa combines botanicals grown on the Forte family’s organic farm with advanced wellness technology for a sensory experience that feels as intentional and beautiful as everything else at Villa Igiea.

Dua Lipa chose this place to celebrate the most important day of her life. And honestly? We completely understand why.
