Montreal’s jazz festival just got an unexpected and gloriously chaotic visit from the future and we are still recovering.
Angine de Poitrine, the wildly imaginative new rock band out of Quebec, descended upon MTL Jazz Fest last night with a performance that was as theatrical as it was electric. Fronted by time-traveling explorers Klek and Khn de Poitrine, the show unfolded like a cosmic fever dream, equal parts rock concert and interstellar performance art.
Channelling the rockstars of planet Earth with an outsider’s marvel and reverence, Klek and Khn brought a sense of wide-eyed wonder to everything they touched. Hot dogs, pyramids, and the sheer grandiosity of rock itself all became part of their delightfully bizarre and completely captivating universe.
It was loud. It was strange. It was unlike anything else on the festival lineup. And honestly, that is exactly what made it so unforgettable.
Montreal has always had a gift for embracing the unexpected, and Angine de Poitrine proved once again why this city’s music scene continues to surprise and delight us in the most wonderful ways.
