If we had to manifest the perfect professional—and human—to weigh in on your top summer sip destinations and wine pairings, it would be Cayleigh Starr. You may know her as the face of one of the city’s most beloved restaurant groups, but these days, it’s no surprise that the young entrepreneur is bringing her expertise to the world of wine. After over a decade leading operations at Lucille’s Restaurant Group, Cayleigh is now the owner of Onivino Vins & Spiritueux and the founder of Celliers Starr, two distinct Quebec-based wine agencies that reflect her multifaceted approach to importation.
At Celliers Starr, Cayleigh is behind the hit custom label Pin-up Pinot, crafted from organic European grapes and bottled locally in Quebec. Onivino, on the other hand, focuses on small-production, high-quality wines made with integrity sourced from passionate producers who prioritize sustainability and craftsmanship.
Now fully dedicated to the wine industry, Cayleigh leads both agencies with a sharp eye for exceptional wines, always committed to quality, transparency, and building strong relationships with producers. Her passion is to connect people with wines that not only stand out for their craftsmanship but also resonate with how we want to drink and live today.
CHECK OUT HER SUMMER SIP DESTINATIONS
- “I’m clearly biased on this one,” Cayleigh laughs, “but there are few things that beat a platter of $1 oysters at Lucille’s, perfectly paired with a glass of our Philippe Bodineau Muscadet. It’s hands down the best deal in the city—and it’s available all day, every day, at all their locations.”
When it comes to where Cayleigh’s spending her summer evenings, one newly rediscovered gem stands out: Taverne Sur Le Square. “It’s recently resurfaced as a favorite of mine. The welcome is so warm it feels like family, the food, better than ever, and—here’s the real secret—while you’re handed a wine list, most people don’t realize that they actually have over 420 additional “secret” wines available. Inquire, and you won’t be disappointed, I promise.”
And if you’re in the mood for something both indulgent and unexpected, she has another pick: Palm Court at the Ritz Carlton. “Have you seen that menu? Poutine, hot dogs, smoked meat sandwiches—paired with one of the most impressive wine lists in the city. Run, don’t walk. It’s the dream mix of high-low in the most beautiful setting.”
CAYLEIGH ALSO OFFERS UP A FEW SIMPLE BUT SMART WINE RULES TO LIVE BY THIS SUMMER
- Rosé and BBQ are a match made in summer heaven (don’t take my word for it—trust the experts on this one). “Rosé is incredibly versatile and pairs perfectly with pretty much all BBQ dishes. It’s an easy, crowd-pleasing pairing that elevates any alfresco gathering. Try our Chateau Routas Rosé for the perfect taste of Provence this summer.”
Simply drink what you LIKE (it’s actually that simple). “I’ve been known to put ice in my rosé, drink white wine with heavy red meats, and indulge in many ‘wrong’ pairings. But honestly? What matters most is that you like what you’re drinking. Montreal summer is such a special time—don’t follow anyone else’s rules. Enjoy what makes you happy!”
Give grocery store wine a chance! “Despite the bad rap, the only real requirement for a wine to be sold in a grocery store or dépanneur in Quebec is that it’s bottled here. That means you could theoretically find a Chablis 1er Cru at your local corner store for a better price, and in more eco-friendly packaging.” (Hint: something new might be coming soon from Celliers Starr…)
