It’s always interesting to sit down with a powerful multitalent. For your enjoyment, my exclusive interview with multi-hyphenate independent actress/singer/model and photographer, the incomparable Jennifer-Lynn Christie:
1. WHAT TYPES OF PROJECTS HAVE YOU ACTED IN?
“I have been fortunate enough to explore and experience many different styles, from seeing how an American sci-fi program is filmed, to Sony initiatives, to well-known indie filmmakers to student projects. That said, it all started with my love for music. Everything always goes back to music and feelings.”
2. WHAT ARE YOU SOME OF YOUR MOST VALUABLE TAKEAWAYS?
“Being on set is such a therapeutic experience for me. By nature, I’m an overachiever and perfectionist but am slowly learning to let go, live in the now, and simply have faith that everything happens the way it should! The way I view time has also drastically transformed. Starting as a background actor really humbles you too, underscoring the fact that you have to have patience and fire to make it in the world of acting, which is a job like all others. Finally,I love that I was able to experience being treated like a nobody and an A-lister. Living both extremes has made me never want to treat others like the former.”
3. WHAT IS THE FIRST THING YOU DO TO RESEARCH AND APPROACH A ROLE?
“Everything varies depending on the chosen role. Different characters have different backgrounds. Some characters aren’t very three dimensional. Some are more of a charicature. For example, the character I’m currently playing is based off of a real person who the director knew. When we talked about the approach for the role, he communicated that she (the character) was within me. So, at the end of the day, empathy is the answer. People think empathy makes you weak. If you draw an analogy to chess, I think empathy makes you strong, the best player in the room.”
4. WHAT EXPERIENCE DO YOU HAVE IN DEVELOPING ACCENTS FOR SPECIFIC ROLES?
“When it comes to accents, it definitely helps that I’m trilingual and speak English, French and some Spanish. Having a base for both English and other languages is a great asset when navigating accents for a particular role.”
